Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has expressed dissatisfaction with low turn-out in phase 6 of voter registration scheduled to end on Tuesday.
MEC Chairperson Justice Dr. Jane Ansah said on Monday after visiting some registration centres in Zomba district that out of the projected 5, 114 at Sacred Heart Primary School registration centre, 2, 540 people had registered as of Sunday.
“Unlike other days, I have noted that a lot of people are coming in today [Monday] to register and I believe that over 100 people will be registered per center today [Monday] and tomorrow,” she added.
Dr. Ansah then assured Malawians that the Commission will use engage an extra gear in sensitizing people to register in the remaining phase.
The centres which the chairperson toured include Mulunguzi Secondary School, Chawe Primary School, Sacred Heart Boys Primary School and Chikowi Primary School.
Over 408, 000 people are expected to register during phase 6 of voter registration exercise in Zomba.
